GTA Online has been immensely successful since launching with GTA 5, offering new heists, surprisingly involved roleplay servers, and just a place to hang out with friends – you know, by crashing cars, mowing down pedestrians, blowing stuff up and whatnot. Normal friend stuff.
If you’re an avid GTA Online player, you may be wondering: “Hold on, after GTA 6 launches, what the heck am I gonna do? Are they going to make me abandon everything I built up in Los Santos and start over in Leonida?”
Good news: the current version of GTA Online will be supported beyond GTA 6.
This comes from Take-Two Interactive’s annual shareholder meeting, where they answered several burning questions about GTA 6’s November 19th release on consoles.
At the meeting, Take-Two stressed that GTA 6 will launch as single-player only, meaning there will be no new online at all to speak of.
At least for now.
That’s because we also recently learned via comments Twitch CEO Dan Clancy gave to Bloomberg that the multiplayer version of GTA 6 would, indeed, come sometime in 2027.
While not official, those comments hint at the fact there may soon exist two GTA Online experiences —one based on GTA 5 and one based on GTA 6— that could be supported simultaneously and indefinitely. That would be great news for those who have invested a lot into GTA Online over the last 10 years as well as for those who are hungry to jump into a whole new multiplayer experience.
