Larian Studios showed off their latest project at The Game Awards 2025, and thanks to much speculation, fans were anticipating Divinity 3, and were correct as the game received its first official cinematic.
Now, for those new to the Divinity series, thanks in large part due to how successful Larian ha become due to Baldur's Gate 3. We're going to run over what we know about how playing Divinity 2 before the next installment.

Do I Need To Play Divinity Original Sin 2 Before Divinity 3? Answered
While Larian has been an established developer for quite some time now, their popularity and entry into mainstream gaming took a drastic turn during 2023 with the release of Baldur's Gate 3.
Now, their next title will be set in the other universe that they're known for, and the Divinity series is still their largest franchise, to the surprise of many.
In short, no, you will not need to play any other Divinity before the release of the third game in the series. The previous two are not connected themselves, and the next title is even dropping Original Sin from it's title card.
